MyPore-tastic Pore Challenge
Ugh, feckin’ pores. *sigh* Pores are a constant bain and challenge to an esthetician.
The Why
There are a number of reasons a pore can become enlarged. The most common is because it is clogged with oil and other surface debris causing them to look dingy, these are called comedones. These are often confused with black heads. Black heads are literally black and stand out of the skin.
There are a lot of products on the market that I have claimed to kick enlarged pores asses but I have yet to find one that truly works, even with given the suggested time.
Another reason is a permanently stretched pore from a previous logged pore or type of acne. This type of pore I’m unsure if it can truly reduce in size though, it will continuously fill but be easily be extracted.
Step 1:
Is finding a facialist that is knowledgeable and that you trust. The first true step to get your pores under control is deep, deep cleansing. I’ve said this before but everyone should be cleansing twice in a row allowing for that second cleanse to get into the pore and clean it out. The quickest and sure fire way to make sure you do the double cleanse is by using Dermalogica’s Precleanse.

Step 2:
Honestly, step two sucks. It is unpleasant and hurts. During this step, your esthetician will use a tool called a comedone remover to work out the congestion and blackheads in the pore. It is painful but one of the most necessary steps. I perform these on myself at home but it is always well into a bottle of wine. After extractions you need to wipe the skin with a post extraction fluid or witch hazel as to not spread the bacteria you have just removed.
Step 3:
Good homecare is one of the most important parts of tightening up pores because it is a continued maintenance. Now there are a lot of products out there making a lot of promises. Well, this Lazy Therapist has had the opportunity to try out some of the best products out there and have finally found a singular brand that does what it is supposed to do. Allgenist is a brand with a fascinating history that if you’re interested in, feel free to look it up.
The Allgenist line for pore correction has a list of steps for you but these are

the steps I would suggest after your cleanse.
Multi-Perfecting Detoxifying Exfoliator
Multi-Perfecting Pore Corrector Concentrate
Multi-Perfecting Pore Corrector Gel Moisturizer
Pore correcting Anti-Aging Primer
The brand promises the customer to see a difference in 10 days and I, like most consumers thought, bull shit. I shocked when I noticed a difference in 7 days. My skin felt smoother in my trouble areas and as I continued I saw less and less of the dullness that clogged pores cause. By day 10 I was really impressed.
The line offers other cleansers which I don’t feel is necessary and an exfoliant/peel that I would only suggest to individuals with very thick skin.
The surprise product for me was the pore correcting anti-aging primer. There are a ton of primers out there that work just fine but I really liked this one. It didn’t feel overly siliconey (yup, I just made that into a word.)
I know the line is pricey so maybe go to your local Ulta for some samples but I definitely recommend you take my MyPore-tastic Pore Challenge!!!!!!
