Exuviance Performance Peel AP25

As I’ve worked my through month one of my Pore-Tastic Pore Challenge I continue to have persistent milia (those white bumps that aren’t quite pimples and don’t really go away) and now that my pores are clearing up my eyes are ever drawn to them.

Milia is hardened sebum under the skin that can’t work its way out of the skin and so it sits, annoying me, taunting me, laughing at me. Okay, I’m exaggerating but still, I want it gone and there are two great ways to show it the door. The first is to unceremoniously kick it to the curb with extractions. The second is to exfoliate it away which is more gentle but can be lengthy. One way to shorten that time period is to use a mild chemical peel.

For this task I have chosen Exuviance’s Performance Peel AP25. I’ve always had good luck with Exuviance’s products and so I did my research and decided to try this twice a week treatment (priced at $78) over the others. My choice was based on ease of use, duration of treatment, and ingredients.

The treatment process is simple. There are to damp pads, packaged separately and listed as Step one and Step two. Step one is the Activator pad and is the actual peel. This saturated round pad is worked over the skin and allowed to set for up to ten minutes. As always the key to peels is close observation of the skin looking for flushing as well as the sensations you experience (tingling, stinging, itching ect.). When your ten minutes are up or if you are experiencing redness or burning, you will at the Neutralizer pad, applying it the same way you did the Activator Pad. Any sensations you were experiencing should stop almost immediately. This step is followed by a thorough rinse of the skin.

The duration of the treatment is twice a week for six weeks and is gentle enough to continue any other activities such as brushing your teeth or getting ready for bed. It isn’t like a messy masque where you have to sit idle while you wait for the processing time to end.

The ingredients are fairly gentle and basic consisting of a 25% blend of Alpha Hydroxy acids, Polyhydroxy Acids (a blend of Glycolic acid, Mendelic Acid, and Gluconolactone). The names are daunting but be at ease these are easy on the skin and easy to control. What those ingredients offer is smoother skin, reduction of fine lines, and a kick start to the system for production of new skin cells. Basically what this all means healthier more youthful looking skin and the statistics from their study are pretty impressive for such a product with 100% noticing improvement of fine lines and wrinkles in that six week time frame.

Enough of all that, how am I going to use it? I’m going to add it in conjunction with my normal routine of Murad’s AHA/BHA cleanser and my Pore-Tastic Pore Challenge products by Alegnist. I’m going to use my Peel on Monday and Thursdays. My first application was yesterday and I was able to go the full ten minutes.

I’ll check back in at the end of next week to let you all know how its going, fingers crossed for some signs of improvement.
